USS NEW JERSEY
In 1969 I had the honor of receiving fire support from the Battleship New Jersey. When the New Jersey opened fire, I thought we had received incoming shells, then the shells flew over our heads like small freight trains ripping past. The next thing I knew the whole mountain exploded. Have you ever seen a mountain explode? (Mount St Helens and Pinatubo excluded). The next morning the New Jersey came up from over the horizon to check out the mountain. I have never seen anything so majestic as a Battle Ship in the morning light. She then turned and slipped away. I miss Battleships.
