WHAT A PLAYOFF SERIES

MY HEART COULDN'T TAKE MUCH MORE EXCITEMENT!

RALEIGH, N.C.(AP) Frantisek Kaberle's power-play goal in the second period proved to be the winner as Carolina held off the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Game 7 Monday night, giving the Hurricanes their first Stanley Cup championship.Aaron Ward scored 1:26 into the game for Carolina, before the defenseman Kaberle gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 cushion.Fernando Pisani's 13th goal of the playoffs early in the third cut the deficit to 2-1, but Carolina held off a relentless charge to win hockey's top prize.Justin Williams' empty-net goal with 1:01 remaining sealed the victory. The Hurricanes won on their third try to win the Stanley Cup. They dropped two straight games after taking a 3-1 series lead and avoided joining the 1942 Detroit Red Wings as the only teams to squander that advantage in the finals. GREAT GOING EDMONTON! THANKS FOR THE LOAN OF YOUR OWN (WARD) WHAT A GOALIE!

Celebrations continue....not bad for a team with not much experience at the playoffs.
