It's Not Donkey Kong or Pac Man

I see kids today that do not know how to play chess or for that matter even checkers...What ever happened to just relaxing with a simple board game....? These two, play this, nearly every time they come over to the house... Posted by Picasa

Kids are not interested in game like that any more. All most care about in killing things. The world has turned into a violent place. Some of the games should be taken off the shelves. My hubbie's cousin is always playing them. We would go to the cottage and fish hike boat and play cards. All he cares about is his video games will not leave in front of the TV. They took a trip to Canada to do some fishing and enjoy the God given great outdoors. Your not going to believe this but he had to take his video games with him. Uncle Skippy had to go buy a converter so he could play it in the car on the way to Canada. He takes it every where he goes. Needless to say he stayed in the cabin all the vacation. SAD.
Now my brother dose not allow them in his home. Instead they have board game night and they play chess checkers and other fun games. He even has his 3 year old playing cribbage.
If kids want to play video games that fine but lets make games that are more then killing something. God forbid they might learn something.
It really upsets me to see kids playing them 24/7.
What ever happened to some peoples values. The world is a wonderful place if only they can get away from them video games and see what they are missing.
Thank you for letting me voice my opinion on this subject.
Because it really ticks me off.
I would like to say to them hey DUFUSS get off your duff and see what you are missing.

I totally agree with both of you. My grandfather had a handmade checker/chess board and taught both my brother and myself how to play at a young age. We both enjoyed it. We never were allowed to watch tv very much when we were little. When we got bored, we were encouraged to read a book, or go and play a board game with each other, or go outside and play with the neighborhood children. We are both more balanced because of it. Most children today really do not know how to entertain themselves without some kind of electronic device in front of their faces. It is really sad. Thanks also for letting me voice my opinion.

If so many of us (parents) realize the damage that sitting around playing electronic "kill" games are doing to the children, why don't the makers of these things realize that they are doing it to their children too? The kids are getting no exercise, can't think for themselves, and have a predisposition toward violence..and a horrible attitude on just about anything structured.

Kids are meant to play outside but they must be in before the street lights come on....

We had the same rule when we were growing up and set the same rule for my son. The street lights come on, you are to be inside.
