BEST FRIENDS
This is my nephew Brendan and his best friend Donovan. They went to college and through basic training together. Bren has his M-16 and Donovan brought along his CH-46 for show and tell. Bren gets to walk everywhere he goes and Donovan gets to fly...Bren gets his basic pay for being a grunt and Donovan gets additional flight pay....Who has the higher IQ? Me because I'm sitting here writing this blog and they are in the largest sandbox in the world..

Blogger's Crack IT Staff

As you know I did ask for a little help from BLOGGER to get me back on line. Their crack IT staff (or was it IT Staff on crack) solved most of the basic problems. I still have a few issues to work out yet but it won't require taking down the site. I believe this is "BUBBA" the IT Blogger Blessing Specialist...He handles any problem out of the NORMAL realm, so to speak.........
I believe that we are getting close to that special time of year, as we Irish like to say "Our THIN PLACE." This will have meaning to some. Please Keep Comments Clean! I just fixed another glich! One more to go..HOPEFULLY MY SENSE OF HUMOR WILL RETURN SOON..I KEEP FINDING BITS AND PIECES OF IT HERE AND THERE..MO'S WILL NOT RETURN UNTIL AFTER THE RACHEL'S WEDDING SHOWER

Irish Memorial

The Memorial is a Green Celtic Cross with an Irish Wolf Hound at its base. The Irish Wolf Hound is the symbol of LOYALTY. The inscription reads:
"Of those who in their manhood died to blot out Slavery's stain,And rear aloft in all its pride, fair Freedom's flag again!'Tis ours to raise this cross on high above the Irish dead,Who showed mankind the way to die, when Truth and Freedom led."
-from Our Fallen Comrades, by William Collins, 1888
Irish Memorial at Gettysburg.
BE STRONG OF HEART
THE 2ND DELAWARE DIVISION:Fought in the Battle of Gettysburg. They participated in the battle for the Wheatfield.
"As the fight was now furious, and my thin line reached from Sugar Loaf Hill {Little Round Top} to the Emmitsburg road, fully a mile in length, I was obliged to send for more re-enforcements to Major-General Sickles, and Major Tremain, aide-de-camp to the commanding general, soon appeared with a brigade of the Second Corps, which behaved most handsomely, and, leading them forward, it soon restored the center of my line, and we drove the enemy from that point..." The melee would confound those who would later attempt to capture the action in words. General Birney stated simply, "My thin lines swayed to and fro during the fight, and my regiments were moved constantly on the double-quick from one part of the line to the other, to re-enforce assailed points."
2nd Delaware in the Wheatfield Gettysburg
As the fighting continued in the Devil's Den and along Houck's Ridge, the conflict grew to include the Wheatfield and Peach Orchard to the northwest. Survivors of the fighting in Gettysburg's Wheatfield remembered it as "a whirlpool of death". On July 2nd, Colonel Patrick Kelly and the 530 men serving in the Irish Brigade stubbornly fought to drive their Confederate foes from this ground. Despite an early success, the Irish Brigade, like so many other Union soldiers who would enter the fray, would find themselves withdrawing back to their lines. The continued efforts by the game butternuts would not however be able to crack the Union line along the ridge. Men from the Federal 3rd, 2nd, and 5th Corps would wreck themselves against the Confederate juggernaut. With the arrival of the Federal 6th Corps, the largest in the Army of the Potomac, the men in gray would find themselves withdrawing, leaving the wounded of both sides to agonize in a devastated no-man's land.
By sundown, the Irish Brigade counted 198 casualties leaving just over 300 remaining of the original 2,500 men who had enlisted when the war began. The wolfhound faithfully keeping watch at the base of the monument represents the traditional Irish symbol of loyalty.

WILLIAMSBURG VA
This is the Governor's Palace at Williamsburg VA. If you go through it, and go out back near the gardens, on the left hand side, you will find a very quite, secluded little grassy area, surrounded by a stone wall and trees. When you walk in, it is very quite and very peaceful. It is as if a quite hush falls over you as you enter. You feel so peaceful. I remember remarking that it reminded me of a lovers hide-away. When I went to leave, I noticed a little sign that said, that during the battle of Yorktown, this building had been used as a American field hospital, for the wounded of Yorktown Battle. Many years later, as they were renovating the Palace for the town of Williamsburg, they found over a hundred bodies, both men and women, buried here in a mass unmarked grave. As soon as I read that, I understood the feelings of peacefulness and oneness that came over me as I entered those grounds. Again it was the same as other battlefields that I have entered. It is so peaceful. It is holy ground. That is the only way I can describe it.

This is a Painting of Devil's Den. It is located in Gettysburg Pa. The actual position lies just below Little Round Top. I have actually walked this very ground, climbed the rocks in the back-ground, and knew the very spots where many a man had actually fallen and died. This is one of the most holy and peaceful places I have ever walked. I can't explain what comes over me on the many sites I have walked but this one is so special to me.

NOAH'S ARK

WE HAVE HAD A LOT OF RAIN THIS WEEKEND. It started on Thursday and just now is starting to clear up. I am glad that Mo is out of town. The state road, to the house was actually washed away, and I had to go out just before that happened. My windshields wipers stopped working in the midst of this TROPICAL DOWNPOUR. I had just got out before the road caved in.. I got back to find the Fire Department blocking the roadway. I had to come in the back way through the National Forrest. The National Forrest Roads are not paved. They also had water washing over them in various places.. I warned my friends not to travel if they didn't have to go out. It took the State Department of Transportation about 24 hours to complete a "temporary" repair to the road. I want to know why they didn't fix it the last two times it washed out, do you think it is cheaper to keep coming back. Now I'm not a highway engineer but...If you put a twelve inch pipe across the road and it keeps getting washed out, do you think that maybe the pipe might be too small? Get a bigger pipe, you As_ _ _ _ _ _! Oh! I forgot about overtime pay....
